Profitec · Dual boilerMOVE

A compact German-built dual-boiler with a ring brew group, dual PID, programmable pre-infusion, and a 9-minute fast heat-up — a modern successor to the Pro 300 that delivers genuine simultaneous brew-and-steam capability in a narrow footprint.

The short version

The MOVE packs real dual-boiler temperature independence, programmable pre-infusion, and volumetric dosing into one of the smallest dual-boiler housings on the market.

The trade-off is a relatively modest brew boiler at 0.4L, steam power that lags behind larger dual-boilers, no plumb-in option, and no flow-control paddle for pressure profiling.

Why people buy it

  • Fast Heat-Up mode brings both boilers ready in roughly 9 minutes — far quicker than E61 dual-boilers
  • Dual PID controls both brew and steam temperature independently; OLED display also doubles as a shot timer

Why they don’t

  • 0.4L brass brew boiler is small; steam power is adequate but noticeably softer than larger dual-boilers or machines with a bigger steam vessel
The full tally
  • Fast Heat-Up mode brings both boilers ready in roughly 9 minutes — far quicker than E61 dual-boilers
  • Dual PID controls both brew and steam temperature independently; OLED display also doubles as a shot timer
  • Compact 270 mm width fits where most dual-boilers won't, with a clean matte-black and walnut aesthetic
  • Modular Twist-and-Change portafilter with switchable silicone spout covers both bottomless and split-shot workflows in one handle
  • 0.4L brass brew boiler is small; steam power is adequate but noticeably softer than larger dual-boilers or machines with a bigger steam vessel
  • No plumb-in option — reservoir only, and the 2.8L tank will need frequent refills for high-volume households
  • No dedicated flow-control paddle or pressure-profiling valve; OPV is adjustable but this is not a profiling machine

Worth knowing before you buy — Quiet alternative to Linea Mini for owners who value engineering solidity over brand visibility.

Stable PID with fast recovery despite being a small dual boiler.

It says a lot that I was able to choose a Profitec Move over a Linea Mini. I think it's still relatively unknown in the dual boiler market, but Profitec is a great company that makes very solid machines.

Living with it

The part spec sheets skip: counter space, upkeep, and what owners learn later.

The honest note — Owners who push volume or want active pressure profiling tend to look toward machines like the Profitec RIDE, ECM Synchronika, or Lelit Bianca. Those seeking more steam power often consider the Rancilio Silvia Pro X (larger 1L steam boiler) as a lateral alternative rather than an upgrade.

Before it arrives

What completes this machine — the faded pieces can wait.

Descaler & backflush kit Electric boilers scale up and grouts gunk up — a descaler plus backflush routine is what keeps the machine alive for a decade.

  • Descaler & backflush kit — Electric boilers scale up and grouts gunk up — a descaler plus backflush routine is what keeps the machine alive for a decade.
  • Coffee scale with timer — Espresso is a ratio. A 0.1g scale with a built-in timer is the single biggest consistency upgrade for any manual machine.
  • Knock box — Somewhere to bang the spent puck that is not your kitchen bin.
  • WDT distribution tool — Breaks up clumps before tamping — a cheap fix for channeling on any portafilter machine.
  • Espresso cups & glassware — Proper demitasse and latte glasses keep the drink hot and look the part.

Feed it right

Week one is dial-in — and stale beans will lose it.

Coffee more than a few weeks past roast won’t extract predictably, and a new machine gets blamed for it. A machine in this class will show you the difference between roast dates — it deserves beans that change week to week.

No proper grinder yet? Sort that first — it decides more of the cup than the machine does. We ship whole bean, roast-dated, timed so it lands fresh the week your burrs do.

Roasted to order, daily, in Ajax, Ontario · ships Canada-wide. We’re the roastery behind this database — measuring the machines is how we make sure the coffee gets a fair shot.

Common questions

How fast does the Profitec MOVE heat up?

With Fast Heat-Up mode enabled, both boilers reach operating temperature in approximately 9 minutes. This mode slightly overheats the boiler then flushes the group, bringing the brew group to temperature faster than a conventional heat-up cycle. The mode can be toggled off in the PID menu if preferred.

Can the Profitec MOVE brew espresso and steam milk at the same time?

Yes. The separate 0.4L brass brew boiler and 0.75L stainless steam boiler operate independently, allowing you to pull a shot and texture milk simultaneously with no waiting or flushing between functions.

Does the Profitec MOVE have pre-infusion?

Yes. Both active and passive pre-infusion times are programmable via the OLED PID interface using a press-and-hold feature on the brew buttons. This allows the puck to be gently saturated at low pressure before full extraction pressure is applied.

Is the Profitec MOVE plumbable?

No. The MOVE is a reservoir-only machine with a 2.8L water tank that includes an adapter for a water filter. There is no plumb-in option.

What portafilter system does the Profitec MOVE use?

The MOVE uses Profitec's Twist-and-Change portafilter system. The handle can be swapped between different materials (walnut is standard). The basket carrier is a modular bottomless design that accepts an insertable silicone spout assembly, so one portafilter serves as both bottomless and spouted.

Does the Profitec MOVE have flow control or pressure profiling?

No dedicated flow-control paddle or profiling valve is included. The over-pressure valve (OPV) is adjustable, which allows setting a fixed brew pressure, but real-time flow or pressure profiling during the shot is not a feature of this machine.
